Were you aware that if current practices persist, there will be more plastic in the oceans by 2050 than there are fish?
THE ISSUE WITH DISCARDED FISHING NETS
There are approximately 640,000 tons of abandoned fishing equipment lurking in the world’s oceans. That’s a considerable amount!
One of the primary culprits is discarded fishing nets, commonly referred to as ‘ghost nets.’ They earn this name because they continue to ensnare fish and other marine creatures even in the absence of human intervention.
Since these fishing nets are often constructed from plastic, they can linger on the ocean floor for many years, jeopardizing both the environment and marine life.
